Topic: Fire Protection and the Nuclear Renaissance
These are exciting times to be in fire protection associated with the nuclear industry. Things are happening at a pace not seen in years - from small modular reactors to a resurgence of liquid metal cooled reactors - and everything in the fuel cycle for them all. Old reactors are being kept online for perhaps the biggest power users - data centers. The first NRC License application for fuel facilities in years was recently submitted - and several more are in the pipeline. Uranium enrichment technologies are expanding and new reactor fuel products are being developed. It doesn't matter if it is a NRC Part 50 or a Part 70 license, or one of the many activities happening in the Department of Energy, fire protection engineering plays a key role in every step of the process. It is a good time to be a fire protection engineer!
